So you’ve decided to have a Bop till you Drop Sports party… now how do you create the theme in the decorations, food, and other party fare?

What other basics do I need for a sports party?

In addition to basic sports party supplies, like plates, cups, napkins and decorations, you may want to consider purchasing, borrowing, or renting the following items for your little one’s sports-themed occasion:

  • Sports uniforms and sweatbands
  • Water bottles
  • Whistles
  • Posters of famous athletes

If you’re planning on having some of the kids sleep over after the main party, then carry on the theme with some sport movies such as: Space Jam (Rated G), Little Giants (Rated PG), The Rookie (Rated G), Bend it Like Beckham (Rated PG-13), or Air Bud (Rated PG)

What about Sports Party Invitations?

Invitations are an important part of your planning because they get your guests excited for the event. If you have the time to make your own invitations, here are a few ideas to consider that will make your theme clear from the start:

  • Buy an inflatable soccer ball, basketball, or football and write the party details on it while it’s fully inflated. Deflate the ball and send it in an envelope. Your guest will have fun blowing it up to get the details for your event.
  • Take a photo of your child in their favourite sports uniform. Print the photo on the front of a top-fold card and write your party details inside.
  • Cut the shape of a sports trophy (traditionally shaped like a goblet) out of yellow cardstock. Write your party details on the front.
  • Cut the shapes of various sports balls out of cardstock and glue them side by side. Have your child colour each ball and then help them write a few party details on each. Fold them accordion style before putting them in the envelopes.

Sports Party Decoration Ideas

Get right into your sports theme by dressing up your home with decorations that will not only create a fun atmosphere, but will also set the mood for the party.

  • Use your child’s favourite team colours for your traditional decorations like streamers and balloons.
  • Fill a wire basket with sports equipment and use it as a centerpiece.
  • Hang pairs of sports shoes and guernseys throughout the party area.
  • Turn a table into a miniature sports field using markers or Washi tape on top of a solid coloured tablecloth.
  • Hang posters of famous sports stars or stadiums on the walls of the party area.

Sports Party Food Ideas

Including some sporty snacks that fit your theme! Here are some suggestions of themed food to serve:

  • Serve traditional sports fare, such as: pies, pasties, sausage rolls, sausage sizzle, and soft drinks.
  • Make “Sports Star Sandwiches” by using a cutter to cut sandwich bread into star shapes.
  • Serve drinks in sports bottles
  • Bake or buy a round cake, then ice it to look like your child’s favorite sports ball. Or bake a rectangular shaped cake and decorate it like the playing field of their favourite sport.

 Sports Party Favours

Give your guests something to remember the fun they had at your sports party and thank them with sporty party favours! Here are a few suggestions:

  • Small trophies or medals
  • Stickers
  • Notepads and pencils
  • Drawstring bags
  • Whistles
  • Sports water bottles
  • Wristbands
  • Cap

The last thing to do is to confirm your Sports Party booking details with the Bop till you Drop team, set up your favourite sport watching chair and enjoy the celebration!
